Part 2: You Purchased an SVG or Cut File for Your Cricut. Now what do you do in Design Space to cut the SVG?

This is part 2 of a multipart blog post. If you missed part 1, check it out if you need help downloading and opening a zip file. In part 2, I'll walk through getting your SVG into the Cricut Design Space software and prepping it for cutting. As I personally don't own a Cricut machine, I can't show you the final cutting with a Cricut, but I'll help you get everything ready to cut on your machine. Step 1. Open Cricut Design Space and click on the button/icon "add project". Once you do that, you'll see the vertical bar with different…

Part 1: You Purchased an SVG or Cut File for Your Silhouette or Cricut. Now What?

This is part 1 of a multipart blog post. We will start from the beginning of downloading an SVG file, or the file format that you need based on your software, to the final finished product which in this case is permanent vinyl on a ceramic mug. This first part will cover taking your downloaded zip file (the most common way you will receive purchased or free design files) and getting them into your Silhouette Studio or Cricut Design Space software. Step 1. Purchase or download a free design. If you have the basic (free) version of Silhouette Studio, you'll…

My Favorite Websites for Freebies – Free Fonts and SVGs/Designs

Happy New Year! I wanted to start 2021 sharing some of my favorite spots for legal freebies (fonts and SVGs) with those of you who are new to owning a Cricut or Silhouette machine or those that have owned one for years. Most of the sites that offer high quality freebies from well-known designers will only offer the free font or SVG for a limited time. The two fonts I used in the above image were freebies in 2020 so you can get some amazing fonts (and SVGs) if you keep checking the websites I share! For those that are…

Weeding Vinyl and My Favorite Dollar Tree Hack

Some people love weeding vinyl and find it therapeutic (if you look forward to weeding a detailed mandala or zentangle design for hours, then you are definitely in this category!) and others dread this task. Weeding HTV (heat-transfer vinyl) can be a little easier as it is not sticky. It seems to be the adhesive vinyl, permanent or removable, that seems to cause the most headache. I want to share a few tools and my favorite hack that have helped me with weeding. I've tried a number of different tools, but I have a few favorites.  First is this Craft Vinyl…

Candy Corn, Yum or Yuck? Free Halloween SVG

Candy Corn...you either love it or hate it. For me, I definitely am on the hate it side. I remember as a kid feeling a little sad when you dig through your trick-or-treat bag and have a bunch of packs of candy corn. Those were definitely the candy I tried to trade away in hopes of getting more chocolates! But, as much as I may dislike eating candy corn, I have to say I am loving candy corn for the latest Halloween design! This design would be so cute on a shirt for the little ones in your life. Hope…
