FAQ
Answers to Frequently Asked Questions
You may use purchased or free designs for personal or commercial use. For commercial use, you must be selling a physical product using the design. You cannot sell the digital file itself.
All cut file designs come with SVG, DXF, EPS, and PNG files.
SVG – This is the best filetype to use for cutting machines. If you are using Cricut Design Space or Silhouette Studio designer or business edition, then use the SVG file for the smoothest cuts.
DXF – If you are using Silhouette Studio basic edition (the free version) then you cannot open SVGs and a DXF is your next best option. The cuts may not be as smooth with this filetype.
EPS – If you open your files with Adobe Illustrator, then this is the filetype for you.
PNG – If you are looking to print the design instead of cut, then this is the filetype for you. Note, all sublimation files are available as a PNG.
Check which version of Silhouette Studio you have. Unfortunately, if you have the basic edition (the free version) then you are unable to open an SVG. You will need to open and cut the DXF. The DXF typically leads to a rougher cut edge, so if you can, it’s best to upgrade to designer version or higher. As long as you have designer, designer plus, or business edition then you should be able to open the SVG.
